Kashmir

On the issue of Jammu & Kashmir, we appeal for peace in the region and recommend the British foreign office to appeal to both India & Pakistan to resolve this dispute bilaterally by resuming the peace talks.

We believe one of the possible pragmatic ways, and not the only way forward, to resolve this long impasse on the issue could be If India and Pakistan can come up with a negotiated settlement and agree to convert the UN recognised line of actual control into an international border between the two nations.

Several trust-building measures could be agreed upon and implemented to complement such a settlement which would pave the way for movement of people, goods and services across the border with an agreed framework in place. This would not just help in building trust among the communities but also help long term in promoting trade, commerce and cultural exchanges.

There are several religious places of high reverence on both sides of the border and allowing delegations access to visit these shrines and temples of historic importance will also help regain faith in communities and go a long way in promoting peace and cohesion.

We support greater autonomy for both the regions within the legal framework of the two countries but this should not come at the cost of rising violence and terrorism in the region

Hindus for Labour fully acknowledge that such an agreement can only work if the issue of cross border terrorism is fully addressed without any preconditions. We also acknowledge human rights are sacrosanct and universal. Both the countries must make sincere attempts to protect and uphold the Human rights of all their citizens living within their respective Nations.

A border agreement implemented in good faith would help to build bilateral relationships by promoting trade and commerce between two nations and develop community cohesion between communities living on either side of the border. This must never be allowed to be exploited by terrorists and their networks. Terrorism is a global menace of the 21st century and we all have a duty to fight against it unitedly.
